"Out in Henley for a beer or two and popped in to the Bird in Hand for a pint. As ever the atmosphere was great, and the beer in excellent order (Fullers London Pride). However, when I we left the pub one of my drinking buddies said the Brakspears wasnt up to much. Interesting, may be a case of 'bottom of the barrel'." - Nick, October 2008
"Popped in to the Bird in Hand a few times over the Regatta and this pub just gets better and better. The beer was great (London Pride) and the pub was busy. Spent one evening sitting out in the garden drinking beer and watching the Swallows fly and dive overhead, magic. A great pub, and I was pleased (delighted) to discover that it has won the South Oxfordshire CAMARA pub of the year award for the second time (The Bird last won it in 2006). Great stuff!" - Nick, July 2008
"On Saturday I popped in to the Bird for a quick pint. Usual excellent range of beers on, Fullers, Brakspears, Wadworths 6X, plus a couple of others.... Had a pint of 6X, which was in excellent condition. The pub was very busy with a lot of people in celebrating a 40th birthday. Great atmosphere. A true gem of a pub." - Nick, March 2008
"This pub is always a favourite of mine. Good beer, great pub dogs, and a friendly landlord. Popped in for a beer or three over the regatta and I was not disappointed. The Fullers was in excellent order." - Nick, July 2007

"Poped into the Bird in Hand last week for the first time and what a lovely place, very friendly landlord and landlady, Monty and Caspa the resident dogs are great entertainment. Top points on the beer can see how they won pub of the year 2006, award. A great little place, would reccomend to all worth a visit" - John, November 2006
"I popped in to the 'Bird' many times over the regatta. I had an excellent pub lunch (double sausages, egg and chips) one day, washed down with a lovely pint of Fullers. On another evening (regatta Friday) I was sitting out in the garden cooling down after a really hot day down by the river and met an interesting group of people called 'Hash House Harriers' (further information - hash info). It appears that this group have been coming from all over the UK for the past 20 years to meet in Henley for a 'hash' over the regatta weekend. Seemed like an interesting group of people from all kinds of different backgrounds. BTW, the garden at the Bird is a little gem of a garden hidden away at the back of the pub.
Finally, the Bird has won the South Oxfordshire pub of the year. Well deserved. Further details are in the Henley Standard." - Nick, July 2006
"Popped in for a beer on my way home from the Little Angel. As ever, the beer was fantastic. This pub is a great example of what a town pub should be!" - Nick, July 2005
" The Bird in Hand is the best pub (and one of the only 'real pubs' left) in Henley. Graham and Celia (Landlord and Lady) are so friendly its unbelievable and the locals are a great bunch. Monty the dog is still going strong and there is now a new kid in town in the shape of Casper who everyone wants to take home with them - it's worth a visit just to see him!!! Excellent atmosphere, beer, management, customers and dogs - what more could you want from a pub" - Cheryl, July 2005
"Popped in for a beer (or three) over regatta and it was fantastic. The beer was great, and the staff welcoming (unlike another pub in the town)." - Nick, July 2005
"This has to be the best pub in Henley. There are usually 5 different beers available, and all in excellent condition." - Nick, January 2004
"Popped in for a beer on Christmas eve. Nice atmosphere and a good pint of Fullers. I am, however, concerned about the dog, Monty, as the pub was full of postman and the dog did not bite any of them!!" - Nick, December 2002
"Popped in for a beer as part of an extended pub crawl of Henley. During the pub crawl I visited 11 pubs and The Bird in Hand was the best of the bunch. Good atmosphere and great beer! A real town pub!" - Nick, November 2002
"Can't believe I've lived in Henley so long without discovering this pub before. A really traditional environment with great beers and friendly staff. Just the type of place that's becoming an endangered breed.
If you enjoy a quiet pint of excellent beer you need look no further." - Barty, October 2001
"Back again ! Very busy, it was darts night. Guest Beers were Fullers Red Fox and Hook Norton Bitter. The dog was enjoying himself by cuddling up to anyone who had one of the free butties. A proper pub with a proper pub dog." - Ian & Kevin, October 2001
"We came back to Henley for another visit and this is the only pub we went back to (although one or two others from the previous visit were considered). We sat inside this time as the weather was somewhat inclement (it was lashing it down). The guest beers were Adnams Bitter and Eccleshall Slaters Premium alongside the standard Fullers London Pride, Brakspears Bitter and Mild. We both had a pint of the Mild and a pint of the Adnams which were excellent. We had a good chat to the landlord and one of the regulars whilst sat at the bar.
What can I say. The best pub in Henley in our humble opinion. Well kept beer including guest beers, good friendly service, nice pub, lovely garden. What more could you want from a pub?" - Ian & Kevin, September 2001
"Excellent little pub. It was sunny so we sat in the beer garden surrounded by Rabbits and assorted multi coloured exotic birds and with regular visits from a large black labrador type dog who simply needed his stomach tickled on a regular basis.
We tried the two guest beers Gales Happy Hog and Cottage Wessex Sup. Both were in very good form and the couple of regulars we spoke to were very friendly. Quick efficient bar staff and whilst £2.20 a pint always comes as a shock to us Northerners (but not to Kevin) it appears to be the standard price in the area." - Ian and Kevin, July 2001
" A pub that just seems to get better with time. Full of locals and great beer." - Nick, March 2000
"Great pub! Remained empty for a number of years but now it has reopened it is a haven for real ale fans as it carries one of the best choice of beer in Henley. Be careful when leaving or entering the toilets as they are right next to the darts board!! Recently had some very well kept Fullers London Pride there." - Nick, December 1998
"Real change under new management who have made it clean and welcoming. Bit characterless and the people are a weird mix of folk but good for a quiet night out. Even though it's usually heaving there is not much chance of anything exciting happening. No juke-box. Sell chocolate and best range of beers in Henley (e.g. Fullers London Pride, Carlsberg Export, to name but 2 of the 8). Mary's dad won a box of chocolates here." - Luci, August 1996
"One of my faves, a free house, very unusual in Henley. Not free beer, free choice. Recently taken over by good landlord and landlady. Has a pub atmosphere, busyish but a seat always available. Garden with rabbits. My Dad got really drunk in this pub and is not allowed back in. Won a box of chocolates in the raffle. Good for internationals." - Mary, July 1995
