"The Catherine Wheel - interesting. Went in for a couple of beers late in a Saturday night, and it was hopping... With the nightclub (Rivers) in Hart Street closed for a refit I guess people are using the Wheel for a late night drink. The place was full of people in fancy dress, I saw a couple of nurses, at least two people in army gear, and numerous people in other outfits. All very odd. One end of the bar is a sort of nightclub with loud music, all the smokers are out the back in the garden (and there were a lot of them), and a third bar area was quite quiet. Bar service was appalling... took forever to get a drink. Had a couple of pints of Abbot ale, which was pretty good. It is clear the sort of market the pub is going for as on the bar was a notice called something like 'pub watch' (or 'bar watch') which compared the cost of a round at the Catherine Wheel, £24, compared to the same round at the Angel and Angle over the Bridge where the round would have cost £34... an interesting approach." - Nick, March 2008

"Popped in for a beer. Very busy and crowded. I had a reasonable pint of Fullers. Two people in the group had pints of some other beers which were very cloudy and not at all good. One weird point, as the weather was very hot and sunny I was wearing a hat to prevent sunburn. When I entered the pub I was asked by a bouncer to remove my hat as 'it confuses the cctv'." - Nick, July 2006

"I was in town the other day and fancied a quick drink so popped in to the Catherine Wheel. It was early evening and the pub was very busy. Had a pint of Fullers London Pride which was good and very cheap" - Nick, December 2005

"Went back for another look. Prices are really cheap. Cheapest beer in town. Had a pint of Landlord which was OK. Little bit odd but still very drinkable. Place was full and yet other pubs in the town empty. Interesting mixed crowd. Lot of college kids." - Nick, December 2002

"Popped in for a quick beer to check-out the new Henley pub. Very pleasant. Nice atmosphere and the beer was in good order, £1.75 for a pint of Fullers." - Nick, December 2002
