The Lost!

Old Henley Pub, Basket Makers Arms

1. Basketmaker's Arms (1841 - 1972) - Gravel Hill (Brakspears)

Located west of the Market Place on Gravel Hill.

A former landlord was Dick Mannley (Ed. 1957 - 1972) who also hired-out boats from in front of what is now Century Galleries.

"My uncle Hubert Walter (also known as Walters) (Ed. Feb 1946 - Feb 1953) was once the licensee. During the war years -- I visited from Australia and stayed in the Pub. Such wonderful memories.

Hubert was one of 11 children of the family which lived at No.3 Marmion Rd. Henley. Two brothers were killed in the war and their names are on the Roll of Honour in the Market Place, Henley.

My dad, Cyril, had a milk run around Henley and lived at Rotherfield Greys. He later migrated to Australia after the war along with his brother Bill (William)." - Mary, April 2007
